If anyone can guess what this little bag may have been used for, please leave a comment! The lady in the shop said she thought it might have been to put shoes in, but it is too small - unless she meant very small ones for a child or baby. It has a drawstring at the top. I think it is so sweet.

Just guessing here, but looking at the picture, I would say a mushroom bag
or you could use it to keep a piece of embroidery in as you are working on it OR a handkerchief or stocking bag?
Lingerie bag perhaps? It is so cute.
Ha ha, Mr P!! No, definitely not for mushroom gathering! One of my elderly clients today suggested it may have been to take toiletries on an overnight trip, e.g. toothbrush, soap, face washer. I like your suggestion Robyn - I always carry a small cross stitch project in my handbag in case I get stuck somewhere with time to kill. I have it in a plastic bag, but my little calico bag would be much nicer!
