Here is my Gouldian Finch longstitch UFO. Maybe I should unpick all the white at the bottom and get it framed with no background stitching at all?

Oh my God, Gina, you made that? I litterally gasped when I saw it! It is absolutely gorgeous!

LOL Isabelle - it is only long stitch on a printed canvas! Not hard. But thank you for the compliment.

Have to admit, Gina, I really like the background stitching you've already done - it adds a really nice texture to the piece ... totally different to the long stitch. My vote is to keep going with the same ... might be a bit tedious, though!

Hi Gina, as always, I love, love, love your linen collection! I am always blown away by the gorgeous things you post!

As for you Long Stitch piece, I have to agree with AnneS, I really like the look of what you've done with the background so far. The only other thing I can think of would be to do the basic needlepoint stitch but that would be even more time consuming than the long stitch you've done. I truly fear that anything else would take away from beautiful birds. The long stitchign that you've done is most likely what I would have done as well.

I hope this helps Gina.

Gina: either way (with or without the white background) your project is very beautiful. Job well done ; )

Hi Gina,..your needlework is exquisite! Here's what I 'm thinking. If it means a long time untill you can fill in all that background,I'd pick out what is started and frame it. If you feel ambitious enought to sit thru all those hours of stitching for a background...that would be awesome..but a gal can only do so much in a day..etc. If its for a competition, I'd do the background. I love the way the eyes and facial expressions look real!

Ladies: Thank you very much for all your compliments and suggestions. I think I agree that it would probably look better if I continued to finish off the background with the white long stitch, but I have decided to take it to the bloke who does all my framing, and see what he thinks. He is an expert on framing stitched pictures of all kinds, so I will be interested to get his opinion. Anything to save doing all that extra stitching! But if he recommends that I do it, well, I guess I will....one day (sigh)
