One of a matching pair. The blue stitch has me so curious - it looks almost like Chicken Scratch, which is normally stitched on gingham.

Gina, again the pieces you have here are so lovely - beautiful.

I enjoy very much looking at them all.

I was lucky enough to find a little old book Friday called Mary Thomas's dictionary of stitches so I studied your stitches on this piece and you could be right about the chicken stitch but it is not in this book dated 1959 however I did find one that looks similar called Rosette filling stitch - but to tell you the truth I have no idear lol lol lol.
It was fun hunting through the different stitches.

In response to your query about whether I would do more blogs about my linen collection. "Yes", do plan one soon.

Yesterday, I began to sort through a large box of 18th and 19th century lace that I bought at auction. And was amazed. Thrilled. Excited. Speechless (nearly). I will be posting pix of some of these pieces in the very near future.

Don't you think it's fascinating to imagine the reactions of the people who sewed these pieces, if they could see them on a computer screen and know they were being looked at all over the world? It would be unimaginable for quite a lot of the needlewomen (persons?), who, I imagine, are no longer with us. And even for those who are - it would be a bit mind-blowing, don't you think? A bit like seeing one of one's children unexpectedly on tv.
